We have good news - Isvara inspired Georg who gave us the title of James' new book. It will be: "The World is Too Small to Disturb a Wise Man'. I love that line in Ramji’s book. It really hits home with the central message of Vedanta, which is that Self-knowledge takes care of your psychology, period. Ramji wants to change the 'man' to woman, but I told him to leave it that way as it is understood that 'man' in this context is generic. What are your views? Let us know if you have any feedback.

Ramji will teach the lesson this Sunday, and he will continue teaching from his new book. As you all know, though the title or subject matter of any Vedanta text may vary, the essence of the teachings is always the same. Be sure to join us.

169. There is no Ignorance (Avidya) outside the mind. The mind alone is Avidya, the cause of the bondage of transmigration. When that is destroyed, all else is destroyed, and when it is manifested, everything else is manifested.

172. Clouds are brought in by the wind and again driven away by the same agency. Similarly, man’s bondage is caused by the mind, and Liberation too is caused by that alone.

174. Therefore the mind is the only cause that brings about man’s bondage or Liberation.

4. Book of the Week:

Vivekachudamani, which means ‘the crown jewel of discrimination,’ is a premier Vedanta text written in the 8th century by Shankaracharya, the most important teacher in the Vedanta sampradaya (lineage). As do all Vedanta teachings, it begins with an invocation to the self and discusses the uniqueness of the quest for enlightenment (moksha). After discussing the qualifications required for enlightenment, and emphasizing the need for a teacher, it proceeds to present the method of discrimination required to remove the confusion between the self—limitless awareness—and the ‘not-self’ comprised of the world and the body/mind entity we mistakenly believe ourselves to be. Other topics addressed are: the nature and origin of bondage, how it is maintained, how liberation happens, the nature of the individual, the nature of the self, the benefits of obtaining self-knowledge, karma for a liberated person and what happens after enlightenment.
